A lot of people ask me where I buy the ground herbs that I wash my hair with (here’s a quick guide for what herbs might be good for your hair ICYMI), so I thought I’d put together a list of places I’ve personally purchased from and would buy from again.
They’re all based in the UK or Austria, and the only reason I haven’t included any other international retailers is simply because I haven’t ordered from any and wouldn’t feel right recommending them just in case they’re rubbish - but please, if you’ve dealt with any others feel free to let me know about them on Instagram and I’ll add your recommendation to the list 🙂
If you want to find these herbs closer to home, here are some tips on how to find them:
- Your local health food store or Asian grocery market is a great place to start; most of these herbs are actually safe to eat and are surprisingly easy to find.
- Google various search terms; try using the Latin name for the herbs you’re looking for, and include things like ‘buy’ or ‘shop for’, ‘organic’, ‘natural’, ‘bulk’, ‘ground’, ‘sustainable’, or even ‘Indian’ and ‘Ayurvedic’ in your search queries.
- You could also do a more general search for online retailers - look for natural and organic cosmestic and personal care retailers, retailers specialising in Ayurvedic products, and natural whole food suppliers.
Where to buy Neem powder for washing your hair
I really, really love neem lately, as it’s a little more gentle than shikakai and smells super fresh - see my reetha and shikakai/amla/neem shampoo recipe for more details. I generally use a mix of reetha, amla and neem now, using shikakai when I’m running low on neem.
