Writers and bloggers are a dime a dozen.
So, why work with me?
When I was eight years old my teacher told my parents that if I carried on the way I was going, someday I “could be a barrister”.
Ooh, somebody pinch me.
I tried to make my parents proud. I really did. I even did a whole week’s work experience with a solicitor.
But sadly for my parents and for my bank balance, I have way too much energy and way too little tolerance to deal with red tape, kissing ass and sweating in suits.
Writing is in my blood. Always has been, always will be.
From the God-awful magazine I co-founded in Year Five (socks rolled down are so last year, 1997 is all about hiking those babies up!) to smashing a magazine journalism diploma 15 years later, I finally fulfilled 9yo Kayleigh’s dreams of bylines and glory working as the assistant editor/web editor/sub-editor/proofreader/email marketer/community manager/…okay, dogsbody of a monthly B2B magazine from 2012-2014.
Of course, 9yo Kayleigh couldn’t have predicted all the shiny fun things that the interwebs would come to offer, so off I went to develop my technical SEO and digital analytics skills whilst keeping my pen firmly to paper (okay, keyboard to Microsoft Word) through the wonderful world of digital content marketing.
From business advice and digital marketing, to finance and software, the children’s toy and licensing industries, and health and social care, I have penned over a hundred pieces of content under my own name and on behalf of clients in the last 4+ years - in-house, freelance and agency side, from articles and reports to press releases and ad copy, in print and digitally - and I have loved every single second of it.
And, of course, being a green lifestyle and natural health enthusiast, I’ve managed to slip quite a few eco-friendly examples into my content, softly softly doing my bit to change the world one reader at a time.
Where I shine
I’m a huge believer in the quote “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough,” so with every single piece of content I write I research the crap out of it until I can cut through the mumbo-jumbo and talk to a reader in plain and simple English.
I’ve a knack for taking dull topics (I’m lookin’ at you, logistics) and commercial marketing spiel, mercilessly slashing the corporate chaff and turning out only the stuff that people, you know, actually want to read.
Put simply, I pick out the newsworthy, useful and interesting bits and present them through bright, lively and conversational content that makes people stop to have a butchers.
I tend to skim through the “boring” facts and figures and get to the heart of what people care about on an individual level - but I do still have the Harvard referencing system drilled into my brain from my criminology degree when the occasion calls for it (okay, so my parents nearly won for a moment there).
You can take a look at my recent agency work or do something ker-azy and read some of my posts for an idea of where I’m at on the literacy scale - full portfolio coming soon!
Srsly, why me?
This blog, and in many ways my entire life, is dedicated to supporting people who are working to make a difference in this world.
Whether your business holds values that are eco-friendly, non-toxic, fair trade, cruelty-free - whatever it is, you’re doing something amazing and you deserve to have your message heard.
More than anything, I want to help the small business owners who work from their kitchen tables in their jimjams at ungodly hours so that one day they might be able to enjoy spending more time out in nature, preparing healthy fresh food they’ve grown for themselves, and watching their children grow to become part of a more socially responsible society.
That’s something we all deserve, don’t you think?
So, give me a nudge on social, and let’s change the world together.
